WSP MECC Env Project 2010The MCEC is the first convention centre to be awarded a ‘6 Star Green Star’ environmental rating by the Green Building Council of Australia.  The MCEC boasts an impressive array of green features including a black water treatment plant; solar powered hot water system; displacement ventilation; radiant slab heating; the use of FSC timber; the substitution of PVC with more environmentally friendly materials; enhanced indoor air quality as a result of carpets, paints, adhesives and sealants that are low on Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s); and the use of low emission building materials.

24 May 16 ARBS 2016, Australia’s only international air conditioning, refrigeration and building services trade exhibition, last night announced the ARBS Industry Awards winners for 2016 at a gala dinner hosted by actor and funny-man Shane Jacobson, held at Crown Palladium in Melbourne. The awards, now firmly entrenched as the pinnacle of achievement in the HVAC&R and building services industry attracted nominees from across all sectors. A panel of industry experts evaluated the nominations based on various criteria such as leadership, sustainability, performance and innovation. The award winners are: The ARBS Young Achiever Award 2016: Leon Wurfel, BUENO The ARBS Product/Service Excellence Award 2016: Braemar 7 Star equivalent ducted gas heater – Seeley International The ARBS Project Excellence Award 2016: Westpac St. George HQ Refurbishment – Norman Disney Young & Westpac Corporation The Outstanding Industry Education/Training Award 2016: Diploma of Engineering Technology in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning – TAFE NSW Sydney Institute (Sydney TAFE) The ARBS Hall of Fame 2016 (all nominations receive the award): Neil Marshall – nominated by AMCA Garry Mundy – nominated by AREMA Dr Stephen White – nominated by AIRAH


24 May 16 ARBS 2016, Australia’s only international air conditioning, refrigeration and building services trade exhibition, has broken all previous records for attendance and recorded a new high of 323 exhibitors, up from 274 in 2014. Visits were up on the 2014 show with Tuesday 17 May seeing 3020 visits, Wednesday 18 May seeing 3677 visits and Thursday 2143 visits. A total overall increase of 13.6 percent from 2014. Running alongside the exhibition was the highly anticipated seminar program which saw a range of highly anticipated panels and guest speakers deliver information relevant to the industry. Attendance at the seminars was impressive with some at full capacity. The ARBS 2016 Industry Awards, which honoured those who are achieving greatness in our industry, was held at the Crown Palladium on Wednesday 18 May. The evening was hosted by Australian actor Shane Jacobson and was very well received seeing a high demand for tickets to this gala event. ‘The 2016 exhibition has once again raised the performance bar and we look forward to returning to Sydney in 2018 for our first exhibition in the newly redeveloped centre. We are confident 2018 will build on the very solid foundations from this 2016 and previous exhibitions’, says ARBS Chairman Ian Hopkins.
