Seminar Sneak Peek

18 Mar 16 ARBS 2016, Australia’s only international air conditioning, refrigeration and building services trade exhibition, will be opening registrations for its leading edge seminar program on Monday 21 March. However in the interim we’ve brought you a sneak peek of a seminar panel discussion sure to create interest within the industry entitled ‘Is wellness the next green’ with Romilly Madew, Tony Armstrong and Mark McKenna on the panel and moderated by Tony Arnel. The seminar will discuss the industry pundits forecast of the next wave sweeping the property sector being wellness, which is about to crash on to Australia’s shores. The WELL Building Standard, established in the United States by the International WELL Building Institute, uses evidence-based medical and scientific research to harness the built environment as a vehicle to support human health and wellbeing. More than two million sqm of space has gained WELL certification in 12 countries. A number of Australian heavyweights are lining up to register WELL projects. Lendlease has promised to explore piloting the upcoming WELL Community standard for key urban regeneration projects. Macquarie Group looks set to achieve the first WELL Building rating in Australia, while DEXUS and Frasers Property have both registered projects. So, will the WELL Standard be the next Green Star or NABERS? How can WELL ratings help building owners and managers measure the health and wellbeing of building occupants? And will it become a new market differentiator that separates the leaders from the laggards? This session will provide a nuts-and-bolts explanation of the WELL Building Standard and its focus areas, explore opportunities and obstacles to its take-up in Australia, and why healthy buildings are becoming the ‘next big thing’. ARBS 2016 will be held from 17-19 May 2016 at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition. If you are involved in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and building services industry then you cannot miss this major industry event. Quick and easy pre-registration is available online which grants free entry into the exhibition across all three days – visit www.arbs.com.au. The  participants of the seminar and panel discussion ‘Is wellness the next green’ are Romilly Madew, Chief Executive Officer Green Building Council of Australia, Tony Armstrong, International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) and Mark McKenna, NDY Group Leader, Sustainability - Norman Disney & Young  at ARBS 2016. The seminar will be moderated by Tony Arnel, Global Director Sustainability, Norman Disney & Young & President, Energy Efficiency Council. YOUNG ACHIEVER HUMBLED BY AWARD

19 Oct 15 ARBS 2016, Australia’s only international air conditioning, refrigeration and building services trade exhibition, recognises excellence in Australia’s HVAC, refrigeration and building services industries across a range of areas including Young Achiever, Product Excellence, Project Excellence, Industry Education and Training and the Hall of Fame. The awards, now firmly entrenched as the pinnacle of achievement in the industry, attract nominees from across the industry with the 2014 Young Achiever recipient, Brett Saunders of Hiflow Industries, saying it was a humbling experience to win the award. ‘Winning the ARBS award was a massive surprise. It was fantastic for my family, as they know the commitment and effort I put into growing the company. But it was also a really great morale boost for the Hiflow Industries team. You are only as good as your team, the clients around you and the people that support you, and you only get that from hard work, dedication and building trust and loyalty. So it has been fantastic to be able to share that success with people, and the award has ended up being bigger than me’ says Saunders. The awards are an opportunity for industry players to showcase their skills, products and performance across all sectors of the HVAC&R and building services industry, to identify, promote and congratulate the talent and vision that sustains the industry. ‘When you look at the services that we provide at Hiflow Industries, it is all back of house. We are not at the front of house doing all the nice fancy things that provide a visual impact. So we are forgotten about. However from an environmental standpoint we are typically responsible for 70 per cent of the energy of a building, so we have an important role to play in energy and greenhouse gas emissions and can have a massive impact on what the world wants to achieve’ says Saunders. A panel of industry experts will evaluate the nominations based on various criteria such as leadership, sustainability, performance and innovation with winners revealed at a gala industry dinner to be held on 18 May 2016 in Melbourne, as part of the 2016 ARBS Exhibition. Further details and full category and criteria requirements for entry are available on the ARBS 2016 website, www.arbs.com.au.
