SM28: Update on the regulation of refrigerants

Government update on the regulation of refrigerants. The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment will provide information on regulation of refrigerants, initiatives to improve energy performance of installed equipment and international developments including CFC11 emissions and energy efficiency. The talk will include the latest news on the HFC phase down, restrictions on HCFC imports, restrictions on the use of HCFC and HFC refrigerants and measures to encourage equipment owners to have their refrigerant and air conditioning equipment properly installed and regularly serviced.

Presenter: Patrick McInerney, Director, International Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Section, Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment

Patrick McInerney is the Director of the International Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Section of the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment.

He has been responsible for a number of significant initiatives to better manage refrigerant in Australia and globally including the HFC phase down and the licensing scheme for refrigeration and air conditioning technicians.

Patrick led Montreal Protocol negotiations on the HFC phase down in 2015, leading to agreement by all countries to the Kigali Amendment in 2016.
